Marco Island Sun Times - Gratkowski rolls fourth 300 game: "Gratkowski, who runs a painting business and sells real estate, has lived on Marco Island for 10 years. The former resident of Scranton, Pa. said bowling is all about having a fun time.

'It's a night out with the guys,' he said. 'Just kick back with a couple of beers and roll a couple of bowling balls.'"

Painting Business owners with hobbies... Owning a successful painting business can afford you plenty of time to do the things you love. I love to fish and play drums!

What do you like to do on your free time? "In between the long brush strokes and paint roller splashes, your buttercream-colored paint in the hallway eventually will meet your spouse's ocean blue in the living room as it rounds a mutual corner.

As you both near the 90-degree angle, you might come to an impasse.

How do you both approach the corner without creating a mess of overlapping colors? If you both were using the same color, it wouldn't matter as much.

But with two colors coming together, you want to be sure one doesn't bleed into the other. Don't let the two colors back you into a corner. Instead, try tackling them like pros."

Rohm & Haas reorganizing; emerging markets a focus - MarketWatch

Rohm & Haas reorganizing; emerging markets a focus - MarketWatch: "The company plans to organize its existing businesses under divisions called electronic materials, specialty materials and performance materials and place more of its top executives in markets outside the U.S. and E.U.

Chief Executive Raj Gupta said in an interview Monday that the Philadelphia company's performance has been very good in the last couple years, but one metric where it has fallen short is organic demand growth. A more localized presence in its various markets will provide customers with customization and speed of service that can turn that around, he said.

Gupta expects Rohm & Haas' growth in developed markets such as the U.S. and Western Europe to be around 3% or 4%, while emerging markets are expected to be 15% or better."

If you are looking for investments and wondered if there was anything in the painting industry worth considering, take a close look at Rohm & Haas.

Large Painting Company Vs. Small Painting Business

On the Job: Cool head required for paint job : Columnists : Albuquerque Tribune: "There is an element of instant gratification in the world of painting houses.

It's a perk of the job.

'One of the best things about painting is the ability to see almost immediately the results of your work,' said Alan Cooper, foreman for Kevin Smith Painting Inc."

This is a really good article about the day to day stress of running a large paint company rather then a small painting business.

Having worked on my share of "new construction" paint crews I can tell you with all confidence that there is a lot more stress than profit involved.

If you really want to profit as a house painter you may be better off targeting small, easy to paint, half day to one day jobs. They are very plentiful and very profitable.

The over head is low and the profit is high! Need I say more?

Give a Courtesy Call if You Are Going to be Late

If a problem arises and you can not get to an appointment at the scheduled time, call the customer and inform them that a problem has arisen.

Even though they may gripe a bit, they will appreciate the courtesy. As a general rule if you are going to be more than 10 minutes late, give the customer a heads up (they understand that things come up).

This little customer service tip will help you build credibility with your customers.
