7 Simple Steps for Painting Business Success

Today we are going to outline Seven simple steps to focus on that will help you avoid a lot of the pitfalls of growing your painting business.

It should go without saying that to grow a painting business takes effort, however when you focus your effort on the right tasks, you will be able to reach your goals much quicker.

After years of showing thousands of painters how to start and grow their business, these 7 simple steps have proven to be the most effective:

  1. In order to become successful (long term) it's important to become a student of business. Start by finding good sources of information and advice (Like this blog) that can help you better understand the "business side" of the painting business. (Marketing, bidding & Estimating, Customer Service, Employee Management, etc)

  2. Create your business on paper first and develop simple structured systems for each core component. (Most new business owners skip this part) there are posts on this blog that detail exactly how to do this...

  3. Create the proper mindset for success - (Stay away from negative minded people) begin to associate yourself with people who are positive, empowering and moving in the same direction you want to go. Read books that encourage creativity and motivate you to get better and better.

  4. Always provide your customers with more value and better service than they expect - strive to exceed their expectations... go above and beyond... be a Customer Service Oriented business first and foremost.

  5. Deliver a consistent, quality finished product - Regardless if you do the painting yourself or hire others to do it, be sure to always inspect the finished job with the client and get their stamp of approval. If there were holidays or something was missed, fix it right away.

  6. Take consistent daily action - always be looking for ways to get involved with your community or partner with other local business... that way you can alert the local media and get a lot of free publicity for your business.

  7. Follow up with EVERYONE - that means not only your past customers, but also the clients you did estimates for but didn't land the job... Followup is the key to building a successful long term business.
